The maker: Paloma Gower

I studied orthopedic shoe making in the early 1990’s. I had a trainee-ship with Stephen Davies in Fitzroy. I then had a small business in custom shoe making in the Nicholas Building in Melbourne city.

I learned and became a shoe maker way back in 1993 and had a custom made shoe making business. I gave it away but now have taken it up again as the urge to make shoes which was laying dormant in me overwhelmed me and I have now set up a workshop. I have had some good luck with finding the some what obscure equipment required for shoe making and feel a new lease of life!

I have been re-making Treads, the suede sandals made in Melbourne in the 1970’s and worn by teenagers, surfers and Sharpies. They are very cool looking, colourful, practical and I love making them for you!
